Stairs That Match Your Floors, Step for Step
A staircase is the hardest working surface in a two-story home, and usually the first thing guests see from the front door. We rebuild and refinish stairs across the Sacramento area: new treads and risers, wood-look plank over existing steps, and full sand-and-stain refinishing for tired oak.
Stairs are also where sloppy work shows first. Gaps at the nosing, squeaks, mismatched stain against the upstairs floor. Each tread is fitted individually and the material and color are matched to the flooring it meets at the top and bottom, so the staircase reads as one continuous design rather than an afterthought.
What to expect
Most Sacramento staircases we work on fall into two camps: carpeted stairs hiding plywood that need full new treads, and original oak stairs that just need sanding and a fresh finish. For new treads you can choose solid oak to match hardwood floors or wood-look plank that pairs with LVP and laminate. Risers are typically finished in crisp white for contrast, though full wood looks are popular too. We also handle landings, handrail touch-ups at the tread line, and the transitions where stairs meet each floor.
Why homeowners choose this
-
Seamless match
Treads and risers matched to your new or existing floors in species, color and sheen, so the whole level flows together.
-
Built to take traffic
Stairs carry concentrated wear in a small area. We use full-thickness treads and proper fastening that will not loosen or squeak.
-
Safer underfoot
Correct nosing profiles, consistent riser heights and clean edges make the staircase safer for kids, guests and pets.
-
Instant curb appeal
The staircase is the centerpiece of most entryways. A finished stair transformation changes how the whole home feels.
How we work
- 01
Consultation and free estimate
We measure the staircase, look at what is under the current surface, and give you a clear written quote for the full makeover.
- 02
Preparation
Old carpet or worn treads come off, subtreads are checked and secured, and squeaks get fixed before anything new goes on.
- 03
Installation or refinishing
New treads and risers are cut and fitted one step at a time, or existing oak is sanded and stained to match your floors.
- 04
Final walkthrough and cleanup
We inspect every step together, check the transitions at top and bottom, and leave the staircase clean and ready to use.

Full portfolioStairs Installation & Refinishing: your questions
Can you put new treads over my existing stairs?
Usually, yes. If the structure underneath is sound, we install new treads and risers directly over the existing steps after securing and leveling them. During your free estimate we open up a corner to confirm what is under the current surface.
Can my stairs match my LVP or laminate floors?
Yes. Manufacturers make coordinating stair treads and nosing for most plank lines, and we can also wrap steps in matching plank with proper stair nosing. The result reads as one continuous floor from level to level.
How long does a staircase makeover take?
A typical straight staircase takes a few days including preparation and finish work. Refinishing existing oak stairs adds drying time between stain and topcoats. We confirm the timeline in your written estimate and stick to it.
Do you fix squeaky stairs while you are at it?
Yes. Squeaks usually come from loose subtreads rubbing against stringers. Since we are already opening up the staircase, we secure everything before the new surface goes on, so the finished stairs feel solid and silent.
